Happy New Year to all of our Small Wonders and their families! Marilyn, Lauren, Nicole, & Mason would like to thank all of you for being so generous with Christmas gifts. We truly appreciate your thoughtfulness.
We will continue to accept donations of disinfectant wipes, tissues, paper towels, etc. Thank you for this!
Special Happenings
• On Monday, January 20, 2025, there will be no school due to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
• On Thursday, February 13, 2025, Small Wonders will celebrate Valentine’s Day. Children will exchange Valentine’s Day cards and have a special snack (provided by Small Wonders, the menu will be posted.)
• During the month of February teachers will be sending home a mid-year evaluation of your child’s progress at Small Wonders. At this time, letters will be sent home if there are any concerns with speech, vision, hearing, or learning development issues, so that referrals can be made to the appropriate agencies to further help with your child’s development. In accordance with Massachusetts General Law, all evaluations must be signed and returned to Small Wonders and will be kept in your child’s file. You may keep a copy for your records, but we do need the entire evaluation back and not just the front page.
• We are talking about hibernation! There is a “bear cave” in the music room. It is located on the stage, please do not let your child go up there without their teacher. Please have your child bring in a teddy bear to sleep in our bear cave for the winter (during hibernation). All bears will be returned in the spring (after hibernation). Letters will be sent home with further information. We will celebrate spring with our bears having a Teddy Bear Picnic once all of our bears wake up in March.
• On Monday, February 17, 2025, there will be no school due to President’s Day.
• During the week of February 17th, our hours will temporarily change to 8AM – 4:30PM (Tues – Fri) due to low enrollment this week. Please plan accordingly. Please also let us know if your child is attending this week.
• Please ensure that your child’s coat is labeled as we will start going outside for playtime. Please also send in hats for your child.
• If there is no school due to weather conditions, such as snowstorms, please know that if Swansea Public Schools cancel, then so does Small Wonders. However, if Swansea Public Schools are on vacation, then please listen to the radio, watch the television, or check the appropriate websites. Any weather-related closings or delays will be broadcasted by the Rhode Island Broadcasters Association and will be posted on our Small Wonders Facebook page.
Important Updates
• Small Wonders now has a new website. We can be found on the web at www.smallwondersofswansea.com.
Reminders
Due to allergies and special diets, only store bought snacks are allowed for birthday or holiday celebrations. Please check with staff before bringing in any special food items.
Please refer to the Parent Handbook concerning a sick child. If your child becomes ill during the night, please keep them home and notify the center. They can return to school once they are fever and symptom free for 24 hours with the aid of medication. Your child’s wellness as well as the children in our care is always our main concern. As well as the well-being of the staff.
Thank you,
Marilyn E. Bonner – Director
